PRONOMS PERSONNELS

Exemples :

Ann gave the key to John = She gave it to him.

The boys showed the books to mumThey showed them to her.

Je me regarde dans le miroir = I watch myself in the mirror.

Il s'est blessé = He has hurt himself.

Pronoms réfléchis
myself
yourself
himself
herself
itself
ourselves
yourselves
themselves

John painted his room himself = John a peint sa chambre lui-même.

I'm going to mend the lamp myself = Je vais réparer la lampe moi-même.

She was all by herself = Elle était toute seule.

  • Quelques expressions :

       Help yourself = servez vous

Behave yourself = sois sage

Make yourself at home = faites comme chez vous

Please yourself = faites comme vous voulez

RAPPEL 3 : LES PRONOMS RECIPROQUES : each other / one another

They insulted each other/one another.

Si je pense que A devrait aimer B et B aimer A :

They should love each other/one another

We'll see each other tomorrow.

( A rencontrera B et B rencontrera A )

The planets in our solar system attract one another.

( Les planètes s'attirent mutuellement, les unes attirent les autres).

Pour Mme Antoniutti : Each other et one another sont interchangeables.

Cependant il semble qu'il y ait parfois débat parmi certains grammairiens.

Pour certains one another est plus soutenu ( relève d'un langage plus soigné), pour d'autres, each other s'utilise uniquement pour deux personnes, et one another pour plus de deux.

RAPPEL 4 : LES ADJECTIFS POSSESSIFS ET LES PRONOMS POSSESSIFS

Bob, it's not your fault!

Give my brother his bike!

My sister has brought her friends.

This dog is eating its toy bone.

My sister and I will ask our mum.

You and your friends must bring your pillow.

It's my cat! It's mine!(=my cat)

Bob, it's not Jack's fault! It's yours!(=your fault)

Give my brother his bike! give it to him, it's his!(=his bike)

My cousin has brought her friends, and my  sister has brought hers.(=her friends)

Ask your mum and we will ask ours.(our mum)

We will bring our pillows, you must also bring yours. (=your pillows)

I invite my girlfriend and my brothers will invite theirs.(=their girlfriends)

Ils sont invariables .
