NOMBRES, LES CHIFFRES, LES DATES

Les nombres à partir de 100.

  • 100 = one hundred.
  • 105 = one hundred and five
  • 161 = one hundred and sixty-one
  • 208= two hundred and eight
  • 207= two hundred and seven
  • 298= two hundred and ninety-eight

Exemple:

  • 101 = one hundred and one
  • 154 = one hundred and fifty-four

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

AND ou pas AND?

452 = four hundred AND fifty-two

4,001 = four thousand AND one

4,100 = four thousand one hundred.

  • 1,001= one thousand two hundred and one.
  • 9,100= nine thousand one hundred.
  • 18,105= eighteen thousand, one hundred and five.
  • 40,207= forty thousand two hundred and seven.
  • 145,161= one hundred and forty-five thousand, one hundred and sixty-one.
  • 999,298= nine hundred and ninety-nine thousand, two hundred and ninety-eight

Exemple:

1,207 = one thousand, two hundred and seven.
21, 154 = twenty-one thousand, one hundred and fifty-four

Exemple:

608, 632 = six hundred and eight thousand, six hundred and thirty-two.

498,325 = four hundred and ninety-eight thousand, three hundred and twenty-five.

  • 1,105,161= one million, one hundred and five thousand, one hundred and sixty-one.
  • 208,207,298= two hundred and eight million, two hundred and seven thousand, two hundred and ninety-eight.

1,000,000,000 = one billion

 Exercice :

In-va-ria-bles!

'HUNDRED' (100), 'THOUSAND' (1,000) et 'MILLION' (1,000,000) sont invariables. Ils ne se mettent jamais au pluriel.

776 = seven hundred and seventy-six

2,000 = two thousand

There were thousands of people, really, thousands of them, thousands!

We received hundreds of letters, hundreds of them, hundreds!

Her blood pressure was down to zero.

Twelve degrees below zero.

How many naughts are there in one million?

1.06

one point-O- six/ one point NOUGHT six

16.2060      sixteen point two-O-six-O

03 20 65 23 45

O three, two  O, six five, two three, four five   ( et non zero three, twenty, sixty-five...)

Barcelona won 3-0

              three NIL

           three to NOTHING

The champion leads by 30-0

                     thirty LOVE

SYSTEME FRANCAIS
SYSTEME ANGLO-SAXON

1 258 963

1,258,963   One million, two hundred and fifty eight thousand, nine hundred and sixty three
2,54 2.54 (two point five four).

Exercice :

0.25 nought point two five
0.05 nought point nought five
nought point oh five
0.75 nought point seven five
3.33 three point three three
8.195 eight point one nine five

9.1567

nine point one five six seven

Attention, s'il s'agit de prix :

£2.50 two pounds fifty.
£0.05 five pence / five p. ( lire [pi:] )

Les pourcentages ( Percentages)

Comment lire à haute voix les pourcentages?

Exemples:

55% fifty-five percent
100%

a hundred percent
one hundred percent

200%  two hundred percent
(pas de "-s")

365%
three hundred and sixty-five percent (GB)
three hundred sixty-five percent (US)
Pourcentages décimaux:
6.5%

six point five percent OR

six and a half percent

4.25%

four point two five percent
("two five" et non "twenty-five": on sépare les chiffres)

OR

Four and a quarter percent

Pourcentages décimaux avec un zéro:
4.025%
four point oh two five percent

 Exercice :

one, two, three etc...

one/half, two/thirdS, three/quarterS, four/fifthS, 5/twentiethS etc....

Dates

Comment lire les dates à haute voix ?

Exemples:

2000 two thousand
2003

two thousand and three / twenty oh three

1999 nineteen  ninety-nine
1806

eighteen oh six

1900 nineteen hundred

If you want to give the year without an exact date, use the preposition in:

I was born in 1972.

To distinguish between dates before and after the birth of Christ, use BC und AD:

BC = 'Before Christ'
AD = 'Anno Domini' (in the year of the Lord)

12                                    dozen

12x12                              gross

20                                    score

1,000                              large, grand, k ( familier)
